  • Theocracy means that a Religious Leader Rules the Country


Post 9/11

  • After masterminded by Bin Laden, US goes into Afghanistan after suspecting that Bin Laden was there but he wasn't there

  • Arab Spring destabilizes the Middle East

    • ISIS goes after Syria, and ISIS reaches a new height in Iraq


ISIS

  • Started off as Al Qaeda in Iraq, but issues between them and Al Qaeda in Syria caused them to break off and rename to Islamic State in Iraq, then moved into Syria and renamed to Islamic State in Iraq and Syria

  • Found to be too radical for even Al Qaeda

  • Led by Al-Zarqawi who was killed, now led by Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi
  • ISIS used to be an Insurgent Group, but as they starting diminishing due to consistent support against them by the US, Kurds, etc. They are resorting to Terror Attacks
