  1. Persecution of the Refugees ( War, Political issues, Violence )

  2. Forced to leave homes: Less chance for education, work, and housing where they go

    1. Ex: Palestinian Bombers - Israel not providing proper lives

  3. Traveling is dangerous, and doesn't provide good shelter and safety

    1. Causing suicidal tendencies to get away ( Chunnel, people hanging onto trucks in the tunnel and dying )

    2. Western Govt. wants to discourage uncontrolled migration so they don't fix the issues with the travel

  4. Hostility to keep Refugees out of the countries, and not taking enough for resettlement

  • Countries want to keep their "Identity" - Stay as a Melting Pot not a mixed race. Ethnocentricity

  • Saudi Arabia not accepting Refugees despite their money

  • European Politics are against refugees, and when helping only a little

Dangerous Journey

Western Governments

  • Fear of Changing Demographics, and Civic Identity

  • People must change their vision of their ideal area.

  • Islamophobia leads to fear for terror and other issues that may occur

  • Using EU rules to keep Refugees out

    • Dublin Regulation - Requires Refugees to stay in place they first arrive until asylum claims are processed

    • Certain countries are tightening borders to prevent refugees

    • Wants to keep Christian Majorities

    • Establishes Global Rules of Trades between nations

    • Framework for trade policy:

      • Non-discrimination ( all members treated equally )

      • Binding enforceable commitments

      • Transparency

    • Not part of UN System

    • Predecessor was GATT ( General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade )

    • Tries to prevent subsidies, and tariffs

  • International Monetary Fund

    • Location: Washington, D.C.

    • Same members as World Bank

    • Goal: Stabilize World Currencies

    • Can give loans to stabilize a country's currency

      • Wants the loan paid back

        • Only gives loans to "responsible countries"

        • Responsible Countries ( according to the IMF )

      • Doesn't only give money to Poor countries

        • Ex: Greece after economic Collapse

      • Doesn't like to give to companies that have a lot of debt ( U.S. 19 Trillion )

    • Requires countries to change policies to support entrepreneurs in a country.

  • Driven by international trade and investment

    • Newly industrialized countries

    • Fat countries:

      • Cheap products

      • Con Stuff

    • Intense Competition

    • Bad for Lean and not yet industrialized or trying

  1. Freedom of Goods - No barriers to moving goods

  2. Freedom of Capital - You could move money around freely

  3. Freedom of Services - Lawyers and Rules and Government are the same

  4. Freedom of European Citizens - Can move freely between countries

Future Plan

  • 5 Presidents of the EU want the Eurozone to become one big country.

  • One Flag, one national anthem, one Head of State, one army, one people.

  • They hope to achieve this by 2025.

  • The United States would no longer be the top country
